We Need Your Help! |
|
Thank you for your interest in our cause! We are in need of people who are willing to donate their time or funds to help improve and restore Campbell's oldest cemetery, better known as Pioneer Methodist Cemetery. This cemetery is located in Campbell, Ohio at the intersection of McCartney Road (US-422) and Struthers-Liberty Road. The reason we want to take care of this cemetery is because it is currently not cared for by anyone. The City of Campbell owns the property, but they lack the funding and resources to care for the property.
This cemetery is a significant piece of history worth preserving, in that it serves as a final resting place for local war veterans from five different wars: The War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I & II, and the Vietnam War.
The current condition of this 169 year-old cemetery is deplorable, due to some years of neglect; a state that we feel doesn't give honor and respect to our ancestors, let alone war heroes. To give you an idea, some tombstones have fallen over, some have broken, and some graves have badly sunk, and need leveled, just to name a small few desperate improvements.
We are trying to get the cemetery to be recognized by the Ohio Historical Society as a historic landmark, so that we can gain the funds necessary to permanently care for the site.
